Steve Durden

Steve received his Bachelor of Architecture from Auburn University’s School of Architecture where he also helped to pioneer the Rural Studio Thesis program under McArthur Genius Samuel Mockbee in Auburn University's School of Architecture Rural Studio.  Steve completed his thesis project, The Yancey Chapel, at the Rural Studio Greensboro, Alabama. Steve designed and built the chapel with two fellow thesis students.  A scale model of the chapel was included in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s exhibit “Twentieth Century Design” in Manhattan.  After graduation from Auburn University Steve move to Bath, England with his wife, Laura, where he began his internship with the architecture firm of Graham Caruthers Partnership.  After a year of his internship and post-graduate study abroad to further his studies in architecture, art and design with travel throughout Europe and Asia, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee where he was trained by and worked for Gilbert McLaughlin Architects.  Steve started his own firm, Durden Architecture, in 2001 based in Nashville, Tennessee. The firm’s portfolio includes a vast array of residential as well as commercial projects which incorporate both modern and traditional design and architecture.
